The new record Already Are is John Coinman’s 6th album if we include This Place Ain’t What It Used To Be, a compilation featuring songs from the first 3 records and only released in Europe. The long awaited (blame Kevin Costner!) Already Are is the follow-up of the critically acclaimed Songs From The Modern West, which was produced by Teddy Morgan, as is the new disc, be it this time jointly with Coinman. Morgan worked with Cracker’s front man Johnny Hickman, Calexico’s Joey Burns, Kelly Pardekooper, and Brandy Zdan amongst others. As an artist he released several albums on Antone’s Records and Hightone Records

Already Are features eleven Coinman originals, some of which are a definite departure from his usual “desert noir”. I love writing songs that are real story songs, Coinman says, but I also wanted to create a sound and a style which is a little different from my usual thing. One such song on his new disc is That’s What You Do For Fame which might be the story of his career. But John doesn’t shy away from more a serious note too like in the haunting Oklahoma City or a personal, almost one-to-one lyric like in Trusted Friend.
