The Rides New Album – Pierced Arrow
Sitting in on my first Americana Honors and Awards show in 2013 at The Ryman in Nashville included Stephen Stills, who received a free-speech award. Stills performed ‘For What It’s Worth’ with fellow Buffalo Springfield member Richie Furay, as well as Kenny Wayne Shepherd. It was a special moment for me for a number of reasons, including witnessing the guitar greats Stills (the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer) and Shepherd (five time Grammy nominated) playing together as part of a new project.
With session keyboardist Barry Goldberg and drummer Chris Layton in tow, an album followed, Can’t Get Enough under the moniker The Rides (which reached the Top 40 on the Billboard 200, and a nomination for Best Rock Blues Album at the 2014 Blues Music Awards) followed by an extensive tour.
Now this supergroup will be issuing another album Pierced Arrow, which indicates the project is planned to be on-going, a gathering Stills calls “the blues band of my dreams”.
