JamGrass
Bundoora Park. Large green space xx north of Melbourne
First off, JamGrass is not a bluegrass-only zone. It does embrace bluegrass, but only as part of a broader roots focus? with jug music, old time psychedelic alt country alt rock.
In this format, it has developed and grown. Last year was my first JamGrass, an event over three days at The Thornbury theatre. At the end of it, I was taken by how something so good was relatively small and lesser known.
It has grown and taken a big step in 2015, outdoor and a single day (with an entertaining launch party the night before) In its Mr Alford from ? with Mitch on electric guitar duo from Country blues grooving “Sailor Jerry Rum” was a salty yarn to close the set.
John Flanagan Trio “Nobody Knows Me”?, “Don’t Feed The Birds” Paddy Montgomery ex-Mustered Courage on mandolin and guitar new song “Bodhi Tree” (album due for release). Just Remember You Can Love Yourself”? Lovely melodious voice precise harmonies song about Paul Kelly “The Last Of The Cassette Men”, Toto’s “Africa” got an interesting makeover
The Stetson Family were up next on the trail of the new loving album True North. Bob Dylan’s “Billy” opened as the sun came out with its greatest strength of the day – it was a nice moment. “Run Daddy Run” is a lively tale of a fiery relationship. “Every Beat Of My Heart” is a slow lovely? ballad Haunted Hills closed the set.
Plenty of food options – California Salsa, Cajun Kitchen, The Nutty Nut and Juice Hut, Sam’s Enviro-Pies, Donuts for the sweet of tooth, and a groovy retro coffee cart. Art Stalls. Donuts Bootleggers Bar,
