Sturgill Simpson – Americana Music Festival Awards 2014

The hottest new performer in those spaces, Sturgill Simpson, is coming to Australia in 2016 (Bluesfest Touring) – with shows at Byron Bay’s Bluesfest, Sydney and Melbourne.
A talented singer and songwriter, he also possesses passion and attitude. Simpson has been carving out a strong upward path for a while now. His debut High Top Mountain was more hard country but 2014’s Metamodern Sounds In Country Music really turned heads and created a truly unique sound, blasting down genre definitions. It garnered him three Americana Awards – Emerging Artist Of The Year (2014), Artist Of The Year (2015) and Song Of The Year (2015) for “Turtles All The Way Down”.
I saw Sturgill play a set in Nashville last year and was blown away. I’m not sure if he will be bringing his band with him, but if he does, check out his fire-breathing guitarist, Laur Joamets.
Oh, and Metamodern Sounds In Country Music was my favourite album of last year.
