USA Music Tour 2015 Day 17

St Augustine Florida 6 September 

The 450th anniversary celebrations spans six days.  The actual commemoration date is Tuesday September 8 where there will be a reenactment of the landing of Spaniard Pedro Menendez at the Mission Nombre de Dios.  

The main events for visitors are Friday to Sunday.

The main headline acts have concluded.  Sunday features four of the smaller stages, with (I assume) local acts – certainly, no names reverbate.  I would imagine smaller crowds today, but who knows?

Either way on this, our final day in this fascinating cultural city, we won’t be marching to a timetable.  A closer look at the history, down to the historic fort, browsing and relaxing before packing our bags for our next destination.

Coffee first up at The Casa Monica Hotel.  The hotel was flash.  The coffee not.

To the Media Centre to say our farewells to the good people who have helped us here.

Through the beautiful and extensive grounds of The Flagler College.

To the Colonial Quarter and Hypolita Stages to listen to some music.

A stopover at the historic and near-derelict looking The Crucial Coffee for beverage and cake.

A walk to the river’s where the historic Spanish fort, built in 1672, lay.  Now this fort was never breached, with the longest siege being 51 days.  But today, there were invaders, turistas everywhere.  A protester outside pleaded with me to take action against this site of ‘genocide’.  I let that one go through to the keeper.

 The fort was quite interesting, but highly populated.  We witnessed the cannon shooting reenactment and walked back to The Bridge of Lions.  At that time, I decided on venturing back to our cottage for some feet up time, while Jenny and Jim visited the nearby moored Galleon.

 

   
      

A quiet night in tonight, to recharge.  Jim made some excellent sangria for us.

Tomorrow the Crescent City, New Orleans.
