Ahead of Culture Abuse’s UK headline tour this month, the SF punks have released a cover version of one of their favourite songs, Police on my Back, found lurking in the set list of their current live shows. They have recorded with FIDLAR frontman, Zac Carper.
Famously covered by (GOAT) The Clash (who pretty much did more better covers than anyone else), and included on their Sandinista album, the origins of the song are with The Equals, fronted by Eddy Grant and released in the 1960s.
Heer at MM we’re always a bit wary of anyone taking on something The Clash have already done – the bar is mighty high after all. But, we’re liking this a lot – it’s the little things – the enunciation of “Tuesday” that sounds like “Toosday” to these anglo ears, the extended reggae breakdown and the exaggerated, staccato vocals on the verses.
