Out of the Los Angeles hills, The Furious Seasons is an acoustic trio, generally two guitarists with David Steinhardt (Pop Art, Smart Brown Handbag) the main composer and melancholy vocalist, Paul "P.A." Nelson adding delicate acoustic and electric flavourings, and upright bass player and David's brother Jeff Steinhardt providing subtle keyboards playing occasionally. The songs themselves are quiet and thoughtful and make an impression; musically there are occasional hints of the mellow country-rock of The Eagles, a tinge of Americana, occasional flavourings akin to Bob Dylan’s 60s love songs, and perhaps a little Simon and Garfunkel. ‘The Loyal Canadians’ is a very quiet but succinct critique of The White House’s present incumbent nestling among some beautiful filigree guitar fills and breaks, but stay alert for all thirteen songs – all have something to say, so that anyone who has ever been attracted by a “singer-songwriter” tag should try and check out this intimate, mature (in the nicest way) and richly melodic folk-pop outing.
