James Taylor’s first new studio album in thirteen years Before This World, is now the #1 album in America. Interestingly, after eleven albums and a forty-five year wait, it’s the first time Taylor has ever held the #1 position on Billboard‘s Top 200 album chart.
The critical buzz for Before This World (on Concord) is encouraging. The New Yorker recently called Taylor a “master of songwriting,” and The Wall Street Journal described the album as “trademark Taylor: elegant, tuneful and just a little wry.”
Before This World features ten songs, nine of which are brand-new James Taylor compositions. Produced by Grammy Award-winner Dave O’Donnell, the album reportedly offers heartfelt reflections and insights, including the album’s opening track “Today, Today, Today,” and “Angels of Fenway,” a song about the redemptive spirit of baseball, which Taylor debuted in May at Fenway Park in Boston.
