Grammy-nominated bluegrass band The Steeldrivers have plenty of accolades behind them, with a hard-earned reputation for studio work and years of touring and performing behind them, and their latest effort, The Muscle Shoals Recordings, is only the latest in a long line of excellence from the band. Lead singer Gary Nichols, who’s been at the helm since Chris Stapleton’s departure in 2010, hails from the Alabama town that became the namesake for this latest full-length, and the hallowed musical history of the region heavily informed the sound on the record.
In addition to drawing influence from Alabama legends past, The Muscle Shoals Recordings features contribution from Americana legend-in-the-making and Nichols’ friend since childhood, Jason Isbell. Isbell co-produced and performed slide guitar on two tracks for The Muscle Shoals Recordings: “Brother John” and “Ashes of Yesterday.”
The Muscle Shoals Recordings is set for release on June 16 via Rounder Records.
